About

I recently retired from a 41 year career working in industrial research and development. In my formal education I majored in physics in which I earned three degrees (BA, MS, and Ph.D) at Rutgers-The State University of New Jersey. My industrial efforts were concentrated in semiconductor growth and processing of III-V materials , such as GaAs, AlGaAs, and InGaP. The device applications were concentrated in the areas of microwave transmitters and optical detectors, specifically solar cells. I authored or co-authored in excess of 50 technical papers and have been awarded as inventor or co-inventor 28 US patents for multi-junction solar cell development for satellite application. Since retiring, I've tutored high school physics and taught the final 4 months of a high school AP physics course. In both my tutoring and teaching experiences I found working through appropriate physics problems essental for communicating the concepts of physics to the students. In addition, relating relevant industrial experiences often helped to motivate the students to invest the required effort to master the more challenging physical concepts.

The intellectual reward of a well designed experiment yielding interpretable results is most gratifying. Similarly, the expression on a student's face acknowledging understanding of a difficult concept and the successful application of that concept is especialling rewarding.
