About
I am from Caracas, Venezuela. My native language is Spanish. I have been teaching for six years in the U.S. 5 years at Vanderbilt, University in Nashville, TN, and one year at Mercer University, Macon GA.
For me, a good teacher is one who creates a safe environment to learn and make mistakes. Mistakes are significant because students can change them with self-correction. As a Spanish teacher, I learned that students improve their language skills when they make mistakes and understand them. A great attribute of a teacher is to be an observer and listener. A teacher can appreciate small things in the classroom and understand the needs of students and how to adapt lessons according to the abilities of students. Humility is another quality that a teacher must have to be conscious that we don’t have all the truth and that we learn from our students. I believe in ideas and the freedom to make changes. I usually discover from my students and their viewpoints new ways to understand the world. Another characteristic that a teacher must have is flexibility if one topic or point in class is harder than others; it is good to change and adapt it to the level of quality.
