Shane Kuykendall is a chemical educator with 27 years of Chemistry and AP Chemistry teaching experience. He is currently serving as an AP Chemistry Question Leader (14 year tenure) and has served on the Test Development Committee for the College Board. He enjoys leading district-wide professional development opportunities for educators wanting to improve their chemistry programs with special emphasis on scientific and engineering practices with cross cutting concepts to maximize student learning potential. In addition to his work within the high school and district, Professor Kuykendall offers University level instruction at the University of West Georgia. Serving as an adjunct, Professor Kuykendall has provided instruction in technology, chemistry and instructional methods. Currently, Professor Kuykendall provides teacher training as a certified PASCO consultant with extensive knowledge on both software and hardware. He has provided rich and interactive training nationally and continues to be a valuable asset to teachers nation-wide. Professor Kuykendall contributes to a monthly blog where he provides insights for instruction and steps for success.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When starting new tutoring sessions, I like to listen to a student’s current status in their course and discuss any current goals or ambitions for succeeding in chemistry. We can then begin to discuss current curriculum challenges and devise a plan to improve their understanding and ultimate mastery of learning objectives.
