Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When meeting with a new student we conduct initial assessments to collect baseline data. This allows us to determine strengths as well as areas that need to be addressed. An individualized tutoring plan is created and the student is matched with a qualified tutor. Weekly data is collected to ensure that appropriate progress is made.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Lauren, the founder of Hammond Bell Educational Services, LLC, has a Master's Degree in Special Education with an emphasis on Specific Learning Disabilities. She is a certified Special Education teacher with ten years of experience in the field and is passionate about helping students to close gaps in reading and spelling. Lauren is trained in the Orton-Gillingham method and is certified in The Barton Reading and Spelling System. She has a proven history of helping students who have not been successful in the general education whole class setting and who need individualized support to help them reach their potential. Lauren leads and trains a team of highly qualified tutors.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Hammond Bell Educational Services, LLC operates on a tuition-based payment model that is due on the 1st of every month. Families are charged the same amount each month regardless of how many lessons are in that month. We plan for a total of 46 weeks (holidays, tutor vacation, and student vacation are worked into this model) and split into 12 equal payments. This keeps our pricing simple and consistent.
Sessions are 50 minutes long and are priced as a comprehensive package. This includes the following:
-An Initial assessment and written evaluation
-Reassessment every three months to ensure adequate progress
-Detailed weekly lesson notes
-Written input for IEP/ 504 meetings
-Individual student licences to powerful intervention programs that target individualized reading/ math levels.

"It is my passion and I have been helping students reach their academic goals ever since!"- Lauren
What types of students have you worked with?
We work with students in grades 2 through adulthood. The programs that we use are specific to students who have difficulties in reading and spelling, as well as math and executive functioning difficulties. We have experience working with students with a range of challenges and disabilities and have a toolbox of strategies and resources to successfully address the needs of all students.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
We recently participated in a webinar to show other educators effective tools for teaching online. We showed them how to find and incorporate relevant games to reinforce academic content, how to collect data to ensure progress, and how to make tutoring online engaging and fun.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
It is highly recommended that you work with someone who plans to conduct an initial assessment to determine areas where there may be foundational gaps and areas of need to be addressed. It is equally important that data is regularly collected and shared with you and that communication is open and consistent.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Does this teacher have experience working with my age group? How will she/he make sure that I am continuing to learn and grow? What goals will this teacher set for me? Does this teacher have experience targeting students with needs similar to my own?
