About

It is important to me to always put the individual needs of the student first. I do not operate off generic templates that limit learning. Instead, I specialize in customizing a tutoring plan that is specific to the students strengths and weaknesses. My educational philosophy leans towards mastery and one of the first steps is to identify any gaps in past levels that are interfering with learning in current level.

I enjoy watching students grow in confidence as they grow in their understanding and abilities. I especially enjoy playing a role in the personal growth a student experiences through committing to challenging work.

Frequently asked questions

I generally begin tutoring with a diagnostic test that allows me to see how much of the problem is related to concept comprehension and/or organizational skills. Afterwards I design a customized tutoring plan that focuses on strengthening areas, which may include identifying and addressing any gaps in learning. In addition, I ensure that students are understanding their assigned homework and that they are prepared for any quizzes, tests, and end of course exams. Depending on the needs of my students, we meet 1-3 hours per week at my office in downtown Douglasville.

My educational background includes a Bachelors degree in Psychology, with an emphasis on Cognitive Pyschology, and a Masters in Professional Counseling. My undergraduate studies focused on learning, including learning styles, learning support and disabilities. I have been trained by a national homeschool organization, Classical Conversations, as well as a national tutoring organization, The Princeton Review, and am a certified tutor and test prep instructor.

My hourly fee for tutoring is $35 per hour.

Several years ago, I left the corporate world to homeschool my children. I became a certified tutor and have been tutoring homeschooled, private schooled, and public schooled children in middle and high school.

I have worked with children in middle school and high school who attend homeschool, private school, and public school.

Never hire a teacher without an initial consultation. This should be provided for free and give you and the tutor an opportunity to discuss your needs and the policies of the tutor. Have an initial consultation with multiple tutors to determine the best fit for you.
