I enjoy helping children reach their true potential. This usually happens when I influence a change of mindset that takes a student from saying "I cannot do math" to "I am good at math, what might I be missing?" Or "this is too hard" to "this may need more time and effort." This simple change in the way a student thinks and approaches Math gives them the confidence to handle problems and trust their own knowledge. It takes the intimidation out of learning Math and paves the way for deeper learning.
I have been tutoring for 3-4 years non-consecutively. I graduated from Spelman College with a B.S. in Mathematics. After several years in Corporate America, I earned an M.B.A. from the University of Georgia. These are both very prestigious and rigorous institutions where I learned that I have a gift for teaching. I have always had a passion to help people and children seems like the best investment of my time and talent.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I have a detailed intake form that will help me learn about students personally, what goals might be desired, learning styles, differentiated education, etc. Additionally, I have a grade level assessment that is aligned to Georgia Standards of Excellence standards that each new student has to complete. Both the intake form and the assessment must be completed before sessions can begin. I use this information to develop a personalized lesson plan for the student and plan for the desired timeframe of tutoring.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics. I have homeschooled all three of my children for at least a year each in their toddler/preschool years. My two school aged children entered kindergarten on a fourth grade and second grade level respectively.

$40 per session. Each session runs about 55 minutes.
How did you get started teaching?
I was a peer tutor in high school from 1992-1994. I was also a peer tutor in college and worked in the Math lab. I spent time nannying for a celebrity and part of my role was to tutor her 5th grader who was very behind in Math. I have picked it up on and off over the years but am now committed to making this a part time endeavor indefinitely.
What types of students have you worked with?
The youngest students I have taught were my own and I start with Montessori activities pretty much from 6 months. The oldest student I had was a 12th grader taking Calculus. I have tutored various levels in between.
