About

I am an Ivy League educated tutor passionate about literature, literacy, writing, reading, and making English class exciting! I hate to hear that so many students dread their humanities classes and assignments, as I believe the skills taught in these classes are the most enriching and practical skills one can learn for a well-rounded and productive life.

I can improve your or your child's performance in reading-comprehension, essay-writing, and textual analysis—core skills of any English or humanities class. I can also create supplemental lesson plans based on topics being taught in the classroom to give you or your child greater context and a richer understanding of course material.

My services can also extend to help with writing in all disciplines (History, Science, etc.) from the elementary to college level.

A bit about me: I attended Cornell University, where I originally intended to pursue Computer Science and English majors. After a few english courses captivated me, I changed direction and majored in Comparative Literature with a focus on German language and literature. I graduated in 2018. Now out of college, I possess a passion for reading and writing that I'm so excited to share with my clients!

Jonny is the ideal English teacher! He helped me a lot with my writing, both from a structural and creative standpoint. He has vast knowledge and is just a great guy to talk to. Would 100% recommend.

Frequently asked questions

I prefer to begin with casual conversation and then begin discuss challenges the student is experiencing in the relevant skill-areas. I like to validate the student's point of view while also beginning to gently nudge them toward a change in perspective regarding any struggles with course material or assignments.

I began tutoring independently in college focusing on English class help. After graduating I continued tutoring, and I was also employed as a test proctor at a private school in Los Angeles where I worked one-on-one proctoring tests to students with various learning styles. I also tutored and provided homework help to these students. It was there that I learned to always guide a student's behavior and understanding rather than try to force them into my desired ways of thinking or behaving in an educational setting.

I have worked with typical students who simply struggle in a specific skill-area, but I have also worked with students whose various learning styles posed serious challenges to their academic success.
