Looking back on all of the IB and AP classes I've taken, I realize how much easier the experience would have been with a someone to guide my learning outside of the classroom. So, I've decided to open Jaafar Tutoring in order to help similarly motivated students to achieve academically.
Currently, I am a senior at Campbell High School, where I will soon graduate with an International Baccalaureate diploma. I am the STAR Student of Campbell High School and a National Merit Scholarship Finalist. I will be attending Georgia Tech this coming fall to study Computer Engineering. I understand the stressful workload this generation's students are confronted with and I would like to assist them in their learning process.
I understand how daunting it can be for students to actively learn and engage in such a wide variety of subjects. So, even if it is only in certain topics of study, I love to see students really click with what they learn. I aim to make my students capable and interested in the studies they pursue.
It was a very helpful experience since they would go into depth in an understandable manner about topics I wanted help with. I specifically received help in Physics and Math and I would highly recommend to anyone who would like to improve in those areas.
Usually, I like to see the work the student is struggling to grasp or wants to focus on. From there, I usually ask the student directly what they think are their strengths and weaknesses with the subject. Having the student do some practice problems also helps me gauge their work habits. If I need to teach the student any concepts, I'll usually take some time to do mini-lectures and give the student links to online learning materials they can use outside of our tutoring sessions.
I am currrently a senior in International Baccalaureate program at Campbell High School, and I have tutored other students (both underclassmen and in the same grade). Currently, I take Further Mathematics and IB Physics, and I have taken Computer Science courses before. I am also taking 6th level French classes, and I am a leader in the French Honor Society chapter at my school. In addition, I have earned several technical certificates from Chattahoochee Technical College in Electronics Engineering.
I usually work with older students, of high school or upper middle school level.
Ask them to explain a concept that you're already familiar with. If they can reaffirm your understanding of a subject or even improve it, they show real teaching ability. I always invite my students to challenge me to explain difficult-to-grasp ideas.
"How much do I really know?" It's a question that might seem obvious, but that many students forget to consider. I want to push my students to further their own knowledge, seeking guidance where neccessary.
