Frequently asked questions

I am currently a teacher's assistant working to get my certification in Elementary Education. I have to go through the same training as the classroom teachers at my school. So I know the curriculum that states require for our students. I have learned different strategies that I have implemented within our classrooms.

I got started teaching as a paraprofessional or teacher's assistant for first and second grade. I am in college for my Bachelor's in Psychology with a concentration in Child and Adolescent Development. I will be finished with that by the end of September and will attend a teaching program where I will get my Master's in elementary education.

I have worked with a variety of children. I have worked with at risk youth. I have worked with under privileged children. I have worked with students with IEPs. I have worked with students with disabilities. I have worked with students with behavioral issues.

The event that I am most fond of is at the end of last school year. Our school implemented an intervention system in March. Where I taught intervention. Which is where I pulled students that were below their grade level in reading from their classes and taught them how to read better. These were students that have not went up a level from August to March. They moved 4-6 levels in three months. Which was remarkable. One of my students was shocked when he learned about silent e and how it makes the other vowels say their long vowel names. Then he learned blends such as: bl, cl, th, sh, ch and etc. I was amazed at the progress he made. That student cried the last day of school. He said why can't you be my teacher next year. For me teaching is more rewarding than most could ever imagine. As I love making the difference for my students. I love and encourage them to succeed.

The best advice that I can give is to find the best teacher that suites your students' needs. Find one that understands and gets that student. One that can joke around but be serious when it comes to learning.

What is the students most needs based area? Where is student struggling with? Will the student verbalize if they do not understand what is being taught to them? Will the student ask questions if they have them?
