What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We first find out why the student is seeking help and get some background knowledge of their previous experience with the subject; We then work with the student helping them to understand the material in their learning style; This is key; Our goal is to help the student not only understand the material but to also build their confidence. We have been told that we are extremely patient with our students.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a Palm Beach County-certified math educator. I have also homeschooled for over 15 years and tutored students for over 15 years.
My partner Colin is pursuing his Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science. He is a self-taught computer whiz and enjoys coding and Web Design. His students love the way he explains the material using words they can understand. His Web Design Clients appreciate the attention to detail he puts into every page.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
We typically charge $60/hr for general math up through Algebra 2. I sometimes charge more for FLVS or where we are mostly doing a lot of teaching.
$65/hr. for Pre-Calc and $70/hr. and up for College classes
$100/hr. for SAT/ACT math.
I charge more for in-home tutoring and distances over 8 miles.
Web Design/ Coding- Basic Tutoring begins at $60/hr. For Complete Web Design or updating, please contact me.
How did you get started teaching?
It started with my previous job as an actuarial analyst and helping family and friends with math; I realized that I loved math and loved teaching math.
Colin, began designing Web pages because of his love for Coding.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students attending public or private schools, some with a learning disability. I have also worked with students who are homeschooled and also athletes.
Colin's clients consist of students needing coding help as well as Business owners needing Web Design to showcase their business.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure the tutor will have the time to invest in you and not just looking to make quick money. Also, never use a tutor that quickly give you answers without ensuring you understand the concept of what you are learning.
Ask for reviews or work samples.
