Frequently asked questions

I typically like to have a conference call with the potential student just to get an idea of what the student is looking for, how frequently they would like to meet, and what they would like to get out of my tutoring service. This way, I'm able to get a good understanding of the type of commitment that will be required in order for the student to attain their goals.

I have extensive academic training from a student perspective. Additionally, I currently work as a Program Specialist at the USF Morsani College of Medicine where I focus on content facilitation. My current role focuses on course instruction so teaching is already something that I currently do.

This typically varies depending on the course material the student is seeking assistance in, distance required for travel, and prep time needed ahead of tutoring sessions. However, prices generally range from $30-50 per hour.

Teaching is something that I've always had a general interest in. Whether the context of the teaching was formal or informal, I have always had a propensity for helping others.

From an academic perspective, the majority of students I have worked with in the past have been students in college. However, I have past experiences with music directing where my students ranged between 12-17 years of age.

If a student were interested in seeking services in tutoring, I believe the first thing the student needs to be extremely aware of is what specifically they need help with. Most times, students can quickly identify a course topic they have challenges with, but what they may not always be cognizant of is the specifics related to what challenges are obstructing their ability to understand the material. Also, just be honest! No one is perfect so just being able to ask for help is extremely important. As long as the student has an idea of what they want, it'll provide a good stepping stone in forming a tutoring process that is shaped around their specific needs.

What topics are you have challenges with?

What have you done thus far to study that particular material?

Have you tried various study methods?

Is there a particular presentation style of the material that is more challenging versus others?

How can you study effectively?
