About
I have 10 years of experience taking Spanish coursework, including a semester of study abroad in Yucatán, Mexico. During this time, I have learned Spanish grammar and vocabulary in great depth. I began classes in middle school, and have remained a dedicated Spanish student ever since. In high school, I received a Pathfinder nomination for my performance in Spanish class, where we were reading and analyzing advanced literature. In college, I continued to excel, and was encouraged to study abroad. Studying at a Mexican university, I took courses in anthropology and literature and received high grades. Upon returning, I was hired as a Spanish Teaching Assistant at New College of Florida. I developed lesson plans to help intermediate and beginner students better understand the concepts they had learned in class. I created engaging activities which involved oral, written, and auditory practice.
After study abroad, I continued to visit Mexico in order to complete research for my undergraduate thesis. Subsequently, in pursuit of a Fulbright scholarship, I initiated contact with various Mexican universities. As I engage in Spanish oral and written communication, I am continuously practicing, learning, and improving. The ability to speak Spanish has opened up many doors for me. I feel passionately about helping others to communicate in Spanish, leading to greater understanding and cooperation between English and Spanish speaking spheres today.
As a long-term student of Spanish, I have been through the learning process, and can use my experiences to inform my lessons. I recognize that not all students learn in the same way, which is why I will get to know each student's learning style and use strategies fit for each individual. Because I am passionate about Spanish language and culture, I am happy to tutor students at any skill level and remain patient throughout the learning process.
I enjoy the opportunity to practice teamwork and strategy building, together with someone who shows an interest in learning Spanish. Furthermore, I appreciate the chance to play a supporting role in someone's learning experience. It is very rewarding to see someone make progress in Spanish. I know the joy of making progress little by little, of feeling closer and closer to fluency, and I will be grateful for the chance to help someone else find that; especially knowing that it will open to the person new perspectives and opportunities.
