I have 10 years of experience taking Spanish coursework, including a semester of study abroad in Mexico. During this time, I have learned Spanish grammar and vocabulary in great depth. I began classes in middle school, and have reamined a dedicated Spanish student ever since. In high school, I received a Pathfinder nomination for my performance in Spanish class, where we were reading and analyzing advanced literature. In college, I continued to excel, and was encouraged to study abroad. Studying at a Mexican university, I took courses in anthropology and literature. Upon returning, I was hired as a Spanish Teaching Assistant at New College of Florida. I developed lesson plans to help intermediate and beginner students better understand the concepts they had learned in class. I created engaging activities which involved oral, written, and auditory practice.
After study abroad, I continued to visit Mexico in order to complete research for my undergraduate thesis. Subsequently, in pursuit of a Fulbright scholarship, I initiated contact with various Mexican universities. As I engage in Spanish oral and written communication, I am continuously practicing, learning, and improving. The ability to speak Spanish has opened up for me many doors in terms of both daily communication and long-term opportunities. I feel passionately about helping others to open similar doors in their lives, leading to greater understanding and cooperation between English and Spanish speaking spheres today.
As a long-term student of Spanish, I have been through the learning process, and can use my experiences to inform my lessons. As a passionate student, I have always paid attention to detail. Thus, I will be able to apply the tips and tricks taught to me over the years. I recognize that not all students learn in the same way, which is why I will get to know each student's learning style and use strategies fit for each individual. Because I am passionate about Spanish language and culture, I am happy to tutor students at any skill level and remain patient throughout the learning process.
I enjoy the opportunity to practice teamwork and strategy building, together with someone who shows an interest in learning Spanish. Furthermore, I appreciate the chance to play a supporting role in someone's learning experience. It is very rewarding to see someone make progress in Spanish. I know the joy of making progress in Spanish, of feeling closer and closer to fluency, and I am grateful for the chance to help someone else find that. I know that the more progress they make, the more effectively they will be able to use the language, finding new perspectives and opportunities.
Miss Allegra was very patient and encouraging in my journey toward learning Spanish. I always felt supported and comfortable with making mistakes, as Allegra says, “it’s all part of learning”. Furthermore, her positive attitude and dedication toward my best learning experience opened the door to a fun and enriching task which has now become more natural and a fun hobby to practice with meeting new people if they are open to it! Allegra’s first priority is your language learning journey and practicing with her has given me both a significant cultural experience and a lovely friendship /practice partner!
