Talking with them first about the specific things that they need help with, and then figuring out the best method to help them understand the material.

I am a high school student in the IB Program who has taken Chemistry for 3 years now at the Honors and IB level.

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Try to identify and narrow down the area that you need help with first. It will be a lot easier for a teacher to help you if you can give them a specific topic you're struggling with, rather than just "everything".
Teachers want to help you succeed, so make sure you're providing them with as much information as possible about things they can do to help you do so.
