How did you get started teaching?
I started as a volunteer tutor and discovered I had a passion for teaching. I later homeschooled my own children in early elementary grades before placing them in public school. Thereafter, I started working as a paraprofessional and substitute teacher while completing my teaching degree.
What types of students have you worked with?
All types of students from struggling learners to advanced and gifted students. I have worked with students of varying exceptionalities, and students on the spectrum. I have worked with pre-k to college level students from various backgrounds and many nationalities.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Helping my highschool students with their essays. I had two back-to-back students a couple of weeks ago, and both were asking me for help at the same time on two different types of essays. I was juggling back and forth between the two students, and it was fun! It's also very rewarding when a student gets back to you to let you know that they were accepted into an academic program because of the essay you helped them with.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
You want someone who is patient, kind, flexible, and understanding. You want to hire someone that you can connect with and look forward to meeting online on a regular basis.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
How much time and effort are they willing to put to their studies? Do they want to be assigned any homework?
