About
Hi! My name is Lisa Schuler and I am a retired elementary school teacher from Western New York. I taught grades kindergarten through third for 35 years receiving highly effective marks on my annual performance reviews. I love watching a child’s face light up when they learn something new for the first time. I have relocated to Clearwater, Florida and would love to tutor reading and/or writing to your child.
I love working with children and find it very rewarding when they’re able to accomplish a task that was difficult for them. When they began to understand what reading is all about, their faces light up like a Christmas tree. They get so excited when they are reading and love to listen to the praise they receive.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to get to know your child, and I try to make learning to read “fun”. This helps break the ice and lets the child feel comfortable so they can do their best. I need to know their reading level, so I do a quick assessment to see where to start. They might read a fluency passage or a book which is already leveled. Then we go from there.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education
Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction. Pre-school thru 6th grade.
I have taught preschool, kindergarten, 1st grade, second grade, and third grade over a span of 30 plus years.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My standard price is $30.00 per hour. I do supply all materials and always have something as a small reward for the child, if it is ok with the parent.
How did you get started teaching?
When I was a young girl in elementary school, I loved playing school at home with my sisters and neighboring friends. I knew then that I would be a teacher one day. I graduated, cum laude, and had a teaching position a month later.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with General Education children from preschool to 3rd grade. In this mix, I have had children with learning disabilities, and various degrees of ADHD.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would tell the student to make sure they feel comfortable with the teacher and that they keep lines of communication open.
