About

I graduated as valedictorian of my high school. Additionally, I attended the United States Naval Academy and graduated with distinction with a 4.0 GPA in Operations Research. At this university, I tutored peers in Calculus II (two semesters) and Probability & Statistics (two semesters). I also previously tutored peers throughout high school in various math subjects, to include Algebra and Calculus I. I know what works, what doesn't work, and how to tailor sessions for the individual.

Please reach out if you're interested or would like to request my resume or any additional credentials; I love math, I majored in it, and look forward to working with you!

During my past tutoring experiences, I was able to connect with students and see tangible results in the classroom. They learned, they improved, and they became closer to mastery of the material, which is why I developed an affinity for the profession and a desire to continue past my undergraduate studies.

Ethan is very professional and always on time. He is also prepared for each session. I send him the info ahead of time so he can look it over. He is easy to understand and teaches in a way that makes sense.

I have been receiving tutoring from Ethan with AP Calculus and he is very patient, knows the material well, and helps me understand the concepts better. I highly recommend him!

He is highly knowledgeable in the field and skilled at tutoring! I attended all the tutoring available at the college we went to, it was all volunteer, and he was by far the best and most memorable tutor. He knew probability and statistics like the back of his hand, was available beyond scheduled hours, on time, prepared and helped greatly to pare down what needed to be studied for the upcoming exam. He also offered two-hour long sessions before exams which were excellent. Every minute counted in those sessions and they were enjoyable because you could tell he enjoyed this work! He brought clarity when the material got confusing and had already been in our shoes, excelled, asked the instructor clarifying questions and helped us to learn the material for ourselves. He is very patient and always calm, yet able to adapt to our time constraints. I’ve known him as a peer as well and everything he sets his mind to he commits to and excels. In one phrase, he’s a good guy and that makes for an excellent math tutor.

I have trouble learning math so I was anxious to try yet another tutor, but Ethan was very patient and diligent with me. He made sure I understood both how I got the answer and how to do similar problems. Since then, he has been my go-to tutor. I highly recommend.

He always goes over a YouTube video to relearn what he is about to tutor and he ends up getting it right about 95% of the time and he explains it extremely well it’s in specific detail so that not only he understands it but you understand it and then that way you can explain it back to the teacher the way you did it and it makes sense. He’s a great tutor, used him for two years, he knows what he is talking about.

    Frequently asked questions

I first identify the issue. From there, I isolate the topic for which the student lacks understanding. Finally, given these first two, I start wherever necessary (given the magnitude of the misunderstanding) and ask simple questions to arrive at a final answer. To check understanding, I will ask them to teach it back to me.

I have a degree from the United States Naval Academy in Operations Research, which combines statistics and optimization. During my studies, I also completed general mathematics classes, to include advanced algebra and calculus.
My rates are set at $40 for the hour; however, I could reduce this rate to account for beginner courses.
Informally, I began teaching in high school, to include several classmates on the side. Formally, in college, I joined the Midshipman Group Study Program (MGSP), where I led groups of students in both Calculus and Statistics classes for one night a week.
I have worked with high school to college students.
I married my wife this past December and we got a golden retriever puppy named Biscuit. There has been a lot of change, but we're enjoying every minute of it!
