Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
On the initial meeting with the student, I establish rapport with a brief introduction as well as hone in the weak areas that the student has difficulty with. Then, we set achievable goals in place for the student and work hard until they are met, whether that be passing an exam or needing extra help to pass a class. I have the patience, diligence and commitment in helping students be successful and feel confident in their weak areas. I will not only review with you what you need to know but also quiz you so you know the how part of the equation.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics, have 3 years of substitute teaching experience at the elementary level, and have tutored both at the elementary and secondary levels in all areas from basic math to statistics to advanced calculus. Throughout my educational path, I have aced all my math courses and feel confident in tutoring any subject area in math.
For anyone interested in learning the life skill of knitting, I would be delighted to teach you how to knit scarves or blankets or prayer shawls or baby booties or baby hats......which make perfect gifts for the holidays! It's a relaxing therapy for all the enjoy and open to all walks of life.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$25 per hour per session is my standard rate
For students who continue working with me for more than three months, I reward them with a gift card to Starbucks as a token of gratitude for allowing me to help them.
How did you get started teaching?
My mom recently retired from 32 years of teaching and was inspired by her passion and love for helping others. It truly is rewarding to help others and see the success unfold before your eyes.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have experience tutoring students with special needs who require more attention and those with ADHD. In those situations, shorter but more frequent sessions are required in order for the student to be successful because an hour session can seem overwhelming to them. I will not only review with you what you need to know but also quiz you so you know the how part of the equation.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Recently, I also taught a 75-year-old woman how to knit a prayer shawl since she lost the skill and hadn't knit in 40+ years. She felt so relieved and happy to be knitting again and mastering the technique. A little patience and diligence goes a long way to achieve success and I feel passionate in helping people both young and old.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I am confident and passionate in tutoring students in any math topic from basics to advanced calculus as well as knitting for beginners. I have the credentials to help any student succeed and reach their goals. My best advice is that it’s better to keep up and be ahead of the curve than fall behind.
