About

I have a PhD in Mathematics Education. I was a classroom math teacher for 23 years prior to teaching at the University of Central Florida. While at UCF, I taught student teachers how to teach elementary mathematics. Upon receiving my doctorate, I opened my own tutoring business in 2014. You can read more on my website: www.mathdoctorbrevard.com under the About Cheryl tab.

I realized my passion for teaching mathematics while I was in the Army and I spent evenings tutoring soldiers preparing for standardized tests. Upon completion of my service, I went to the University of New Mexico to get a Masters in Secondary Education and later an Education Specialist Degree. I most enjoy my work when students realize that math is possible and can even be enjoyable.

Frequently asked questions

I start with a 30-minute evaluation of skills which involves me asking the student specific questions about their math education background, their goals for tutoring, and ask the student to perform some basic math operations. This allows me to interact with the student and determine how many sessions will be necessary in my opinion to accomplish their education goals.

I have a Bachelors Degree in Mathematics from St. Mary's Universiyy (1985), Masters Degree in Secondary Education (1990) and Education Specialist Degree (1999)  from the University of New Mexico, and a PhD from the University of Central Florida (2014).

The initial evaluation costs $25. Math tutoring costs $150 for 4 one-hour individual tutoring sessions.
