About

Hi! I'm Laura. I've always loved learning, teaching, and meeting new people, and I love helping others, as I do in my current job as a Flight Attendant for a major U.S. airline. My diverse background of a 4 year college education, several years of corporate work experience, having lived and studied abroad, and, now, traveling as a Flight Attendant, has allowed me to cultivate a unique blend of "book smarts and street smarts." :) I genuinely love meeting new people and learning about them, and always have a warm, friendly smile for each person I meet. In my opinion, each person has their own unique style of learning; there is no "one size fits all" when it comes to tutoring and teaching. I believe in taking the time to find each student's own ideal learning style, and incorporating that into my lessons wherever possible, so the individual gets the most out of his or her tutoring/learning experience, and has fun, too. By making learning engaging and enjoyable, I believe this helps my students retain knowledge, helps build their confidence, and makes learning something students start to truly enjoy, rather than just being a dreaded, mundane task they "have to" complete. To me, there is nothing more rewarding than watching my students progress, seeing them start to realize how amazing they really are, and helping them learn that each student has the potential to reach whatever goals he or she wants to achieve, both academically and in life. The sky is the limit for each and every one of you. I'd love to help you get started! Let's do this! :) http://cdn.tutors.com/assets/images/tmp/tutors-2020.png

I graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor's Degree from Albion College and studied at the University of Newcastle in Newcastle, Australia.  I have over 20 years of tutoring experience, tutoring children and adults of all ages.  I have tutoring experience in all academic subjects in a College Prep curriculum, but I specialize in English, grammar, writing, and test preparation.  During college, I also worked at the Career Center at my college, assisting other students in the creation and editing of their resumes, as well as helping them prepare for interviews.

Pricing varies by subject, level of difficulty and number of lessons booked.  Packages are available.

I've always loved learning and school, and academics have always come easily to me.  In third grade, I went into the Talented And Gifted program at my school, and I never really had to try to do well in school, so I took it for granted that not everyone is like that.  In high school, I started tutoring my classmates and in college I got a job at the Career Center at my college, where I was trained on how to help other students write and edit their resumes, and learn how to prepare for those nerve-wracking, post-college job interviews we were all facing.  By learning to help teach others, it made me start appreciate and enjoying helping others learn, rather than hiding my "nerdiness" because it wasn't cool to be the super smart girl in school.  (It was cool when all those scholarships came along, though, and I didn't have as many student loans to pay off as I otherwise would've had.  LOL!  :)  )

I've worked with students as young as toddlers, all the way on up to older adults who have been young at heart.  :)

I'd advise students to realize that learning should not be a one size fits all, cookie-cutter experience, and to be wary of any teacher or tutor who tries to offer such an approach.  Every student's own individual learning style should always be considered, and incorporated into lessons whenever possible.

Students should remember that teachers are people just like them, and that if they have found the right teacher, their teacher will genuinely want them to succeed and also have fun learning.  I hope I can be that teacher or tutor for you.  :)
