About

Knowledge is the one thing NOBODY can take from us! Why not tap into developing it?

With 4+ years of experience in middle and high school math education, paired with student academic counseling and social-emotional mentorship, I am particularly passionate about supporting middle school students' growth and progress! I LOVE helping students and families feel empowered to pursue growth as they transition into this new phase of life not just academically, but also socially and emotionally!

As a tutor and educator, my goals are to:

1. Meet youth and their families "where they are at" in their own learning and life journeys and help them move to where they want to be!

2. Provide affordable, equitable access to math and growth-related support and resources.

3. Break down the stigma that math (and learning in general) "isn't fun" while showing its importance in everyday life!

I am always looking for opportunities that will allow me to continue my dynamic servant-leadership to youth in my community and pay it forward to the next generation!

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have!

I look forward to hearing from (and working with) you and your student!

Frequently asked questions

I begin with breaking the ice and getting to know the student before shifting gears toward math.

Once we begin discussing the work, I ask open-ended questions to determine where students are currently at in their work, what their overall goal is, and their definition of success.

From here, we work collaboratively to make sure we understand the topic and its various moving parts!

I have 4+ years of experience working directly with youth in both academic and non-academic capacities:

- I have completed a college internship at a local library in the Teen and Young Adults department and designed a bullying-themed escape room for tweens and teens.

-I have served and worked for three years in the public education system in math classrooms as a Teacher's Assistant and Lead Teacher in Title I schools.

- I have conducted weekly 1:1 and small group tutoring sessions for several subjects including math, ELA, and social studies.

- I have conducted weekly 1:1 and small groups to mentor youth's Social-Emotional learning and development.

-I worked as a Youth Program Specialist developing both recreational and literacy-based programming for youth ages 0 to 18 in the Orange County Library System's Youth Services department.

Aside from having a principal for a mother, I signed up to serve in the AmeriCorps program "City Year" with their site in Orlando, FL in July of 2019! I completed two years of service (one year as an AmeriCorps Member, one year as a team leader). This shed light on whether the educational world was the route I wanted to pursue, which I did! From there, I have consistently looked for and secured opportunities that allowed me to be boots on the ground supporting the youth in my community!

-MATH: 6th-9th grade math students who attend Title I schools

- EARLY LITERACY: Ages zero to five

- LITERACY/ELA: Kindergarten-2nd grade students who attend Title I schools

Using a classroom economy system that helped students practice responsibility with jobs, and managing money through tickets of various values.

Make sure they meet you where YOU are at! It is YOUR brain & YOUR grade! Only you know how things REALLY rock and roll when it comes to your success!

If they are not willing to adjust their teaching style to your learning style so that you can make the best out of the session, then find a new tutor!

What is my learning style?

Does this person make genuine efforts to educate me? Or are they going through the motions?

What REALLY is my misunderstanding about?: the problem, the topic, the entire subject, or school itself?
