Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When working with a new student I like to speak to them first about their likes, dislikes, and other such subjects so that they do not feel daunted by my status as their "tutor." Once we have warmed up and had a small conversation, I ask my student to tell me what they are having trouble with and proceed to assist them to the best of my ability.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I tutored at my highschool for four years once I entered highschool. In 9th grade I tutored 8th grade and below in English. and I continued to grade any grade level below my own. In college, for two years, I tutored as a paid tutor for two years with a 100% approval rate.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My general rate for tutoring is 15 - 20 dollars an hour.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching because I wanted to help others learn english in an easy and fun way. I also wanted to ensure that they would have the best quality of tutoring.
What types of students have you worked with?
I've worked with students of many ages and backgrounds. I come from New York City so before I entered university I worked with students from difficult backgrounds who had trouble learning because of a lack of resources available. In college I worked with fellow students of differing statuses and backgrounds and helped them with their assignments in a timely and orderly fashion.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Your tutor is your friend, don't feel daunted by their presence or by the fact that you are learning from them. A tutor is here to help you with anything you are having trouble with and they are your resource to depend on.
