I love teaching chemistry! I have over 17 years of teaching experience in teaching different levels of chemistry courses. One of my strength is to engage students at the interpersonal level and provide an individual lesson plan. I can also break down the complex concepts so the students can digest the information easily. The most recent award I received is the Outstanding Two-Year College Teacher from the Orlando Section of the American Chemical Society (ACS). I strongly believe everyone can learn chemistry.
I love to hear students say "I can do this, it's not too bad","Oh I understand it!, "This lab is awesome", and "I am excited about learning next topic". I enjoy this part of teaching the most when my students get an aha moment. It is extremely rewarding to both myself and the students.
Dr. T is a great teacher! She makes learning easy and fun with her lectures and explanations. She is also very caring and makes sure that you understand the information so that you can do your very best. She is very supportive of you even when you are in doubt about your own knowledge and helps you feel more comfortable about the subject matter. She believes in her students and that shows in in her teaching.
Coming into Chemistry, I was extremely overwhelmed because I didn't feel like I received a good foundation in high school, but it turns out I had nothing worry about! She made the transition from Biology to Chemistry seamless and not overwhelming. She was there to assist me with whatever questions I had and worked really hard to make sure all of the students, including myself, were understanding the content. I loved how she explained everything and made sure we understood the "Why" behind the topics... why trends, formulas and reactions were were the way they were, instead of just saying this is this and that's it. Especially during the summer, when it is so fast paced. she still was able to keep the class calm and not overwhelming. In addition to explaining things really well, she had a lot of memory devices that help for further understanding. I feel like I have a strong foundation now and feel good going into Chem 2 with the help of Dr. T!
I returned to college this year as a post-baccalaureate student to take some additional science courses. I was nervous about chemistry since it was the first science course I have taken in nearly 20 years. Dr. T was a fantastic professor who made my return to academics enjoyable. She was able to take complex materials and concepts and break them down so that they were easily understandable. I often contacted her with questions regarding the material and she always responded in a timely manner and with the information that I needed. I can honestly say that she is one of the best science professors I have had over the years and I was grateful to have her to help me through this difficult subject.
Dr. T provided the BEST tutoring experience I've ever had! She is a phenomenal instructor - very patient & full of energy. Her creative style of teaching will break down difficult concepts into bite size pieces. Dr. T brings excitement to the subject matter & makes learning very practical. A tutoring session with her will put you leagues ahead of the rest. The studying tips and strategies that I’ve learned from her is something that I’ll continue to use in both my educational and professional career. I highly recommend Dr. T!!
I will find out how the student is currently doing in the class and what s/he is struggling with. This will allow me to come up with a lesson plan (this may include lecture notes, worksheets, and other resources) for the student.
I have taught AP and IB chemistry courses in high schools. Currently, I teach introduction to chemistry, general chemistry 1 and 2 at local community college.
I have a free consultation for the first meeting. This is where I ask students series questions to figure out what would be the best plan for the student. Then I charge $60 per hour for a session.
I am originally from upstate NY and I was working as an organic chemist at Bristol Myers. Due to a personal reason, I move to Daytona Beach and was not able to find a chemist job in the area. I got a job as a high school chemistry teacher and fell in love with teaching since then.
I have worked with high school students, college students and students who are coming back to school to work on getting a new career (all different ages).
