About
Hiiiiiiii everyone! My name is Ameerah Brown. As a tutor, I believe strategy is the backbone of the SAT and having strategies that match how you naturally work will almost guarantee success. This belief is what I base all my pedagogical methods upon. I am currently at Spelman College but I am recent highschool graduate having graduated from my highschool's IB program in 2019. While at my high school I was awarded the honor roll for Mathematics SL (standard level ) and English Language and Literature HL (high level).
When tutoring I am very patient and thorough . Every student knows how it feels to think your questions 'are dumb' or how hard it can be grasp something that's difficult for you. Since I have been in your position as a former high school student, I make sure I am very understanding and take my time. I took the SAT in 2019 so I am very familiar with the new format. I got a 1400. I worked with the best tutors in my area and could evaluate not only how I was doing but their strengths and weaknesses as SAT teachers. Since I had a bird's eye of the learning process, around that time I also tutored several of my classmates and that led to me tutoring now, more professionally. I acknowledge that I am not very experienced so my prices are cheaper than most, I really just want to help whoever I can.
As I mentioned I am going Spelman College and I couldn't be happier here! I realize how much difference having a high score can make and I want other students to have access to the same success I did.
I enjoy making students happy knowing they are fully prepared! The anxiety of stepping into a test you are not confident about is a feeling I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
On our first meeting I will probe how much experience in Mathematics and English and how much time they have to prepare. I will also ask them about their learning style and if they are not sure I will direct them to a short questionnaire. After gathering all of that information, I will then prepare a schedule and share it with the student. I try to make sure it is very flexible and I include little to no homework. I have several SAT textbooks where I draw practice exercises from. As I said, I believe strategy is the backbone the SAT and this belief is what I base all my pedagogical methods upon.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
