About

Bonjour!

Thank you for taking the time to read my profile. I hope to share my passion for languages with you very soon.

My name is Julien, I am a certified French teacher. My native language is French, and I also speak English and Spanish.

I grew up in the south of France, a city called Perpignan. I have studied a master’s degree specialized in Foreign Languages at the university of Nantes (France) from 2010 to 2016. Furthermore, I am also certified French teacher by the Alliance Française of Vichy (please find attached my certification).

I was lucky to travel and to teach French in several countries. I worked in Liverpool in 2014 where I taught French to English students in a private school. I worked as well in a Languages school in Chile (EFTG Taltal) where I had the opportunity to work with several groups of students from 5 years old to 60 years old. It was an enriching experience. And I am currently in Medellín (Colombia) working as a French teacher at the university of Medellin.

As well, I have been offering private online classes for the past 2 years to students of all ages and levels. I especially enjoy giving one-on-one classes because I believe it is much more efficient than classes with a group. When all my attention is directed to one student, I have a much better knowledge of the student's strengths and areas of needs and can plan lessons accordingly. Furthermore, a one-on-one language class has the advantage that the student speaks much more and receives much more feedback. In my experience, the student always makes faster progress.

My teaching approach:

Based on my experience studying languages, and on my studies in education, I have developed an approach at teaching languages that is focused on developing oral skills and aims at increasing fluency. Through conversation, I help my students gain confidence and speak creatively with the vocabulary they know. There are different ways of saying the same thing, and so it is always possible to say something even if we don't know a specific word. That is why I always encourage students to use definitions, analogies, synonyms and antonyms, and even hand gestures and facial expressions, in order to keep the conversation in the target language.

As we discuss different topics of interest, I teach new vocabulary and expressions, and I write them in the chat section so that they can be reviewed later. When needed, I offer feedback with regards to pronunciation, grammar, meaning, etc. When necessary, I can speak English or Spanish to explain the meaning of a word or expression, or a grammar rule.

This personalized approach makes the lesson rich in content, and much more engaging for the student. A motivated and committed student is sure to improve fluency and gain confidence.

I’ve been studying french for quite a while and honestly nobody helped me better than Julien! I was struggling with pronunciation and grammar mainly, but now i’m improving and it’s only the 6th or 7th class. i like the method he uses. Reading writing and listening along with the very helpful material.

Julien is so fabulous! He is kind, patient and knowledgeable. He has great energy and very encouraging. I am an adult learning and he is adaptive to my needs, which I pretty much need everything! But with Julien, learning grammar, working on vocabulary and practicing speaking this beautiful language is very FUN! Enjoy the journey :-)
