About this tutor

Hi my name is Christian Jarquin and I am the founder of 'Miami Math Coach HW & Test Prep Tutoring'.   I am a college Math professor with ten years of teaching experience and I love what I do.  I am filled with joy when my students understand a difficult subject because I made it easy to understand.  I have a professional teacher certificate that taught me how to teach you how best you learn.  We all learn differently and I know I will improve your grade. I have taught SAT MATH bootcamps and teacher preparation to classes and my students rave on how clear, easy and fun I make learning.   If you need any help in any subject in your hw, or just need test preparation please give me a call.  I will be happy to to teach you.

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I give my students a pre-assessment to evaluate their current level of knowledge. From this assessment I know if we need to do remediation, or work on more challenging concepts.  If students want to get ahead of their class I also help them be a step ahead of their other classmates.  This way students will have seen the concept various times.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Masters in Science Mathematics (MS)
Bachelors in International Business
Licensed Realtor (Sales Associate Florida)
Auditor of Banks and Financial Institutions
Worked for Financial Services Corporations

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

I have a group rate and an individual rate.

My group rate is $35/hr/ student if both students are in the same class.

3 or more students rate:  $30/hr/student

My individual  student rate: $60/hr

I go out of my way to make sure your student/son/daughter learn the material.  I have a professional teacher  certificate that allows me to teach to your child's favorite learnint style.  Whether your child needs to learn visually with photos or auditory with songs and rhymes I can help them learn.  I can also help them experience math through 3D objects manipulatives so they truly understand the concept.

How did you get started teaching?

I tutored my friends in college and I learned that I loved to help people learn.  After working for the financial industry, I learned that my true passion is teaching so I pursued my calling.

What types of students have you worked with?

I have worked with gifted students, Asbergers (Autism) students, honors, AP, and cambridge students.  I have worked with elementary, middle school, high school, college students and professionals.  I have taught SAT/ACT Test preparation, GRE Test Preparation, Prepared students for the Nursing Test Exam, Prepared Teachers for the FTCE (Florida Teacher Certification Examination).  I am able to teach both children and adults

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

A student of mine just passed the Florida Teacher Certification Examination after multilple times trying. This has been one of my proudest moments as an educator.  My lessons helped her learn basic math to a level of proficiency.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a tutor in your area of expertise?

Make sure to review YELP ratings and require a Masters in Science in Mathematics and Statistics.  This way you know other people have had quality service and that your tutor is well educated.

I have high ratings in both YELP and rate my professor. I also have a Masters in Science in Mathematics and statistics.

What questions should students think through before talking to tutors about their needs?

1.  What do I hope to accomplish by contacting a tutor?  Is it improving a test grade, test preparation or just increase overall knowledge?

2.  Do Yelp customers recommend this tutor?

3.  Will this tutor help me learn the best way I like to learn?

4. Does this tutor have a Masters in Science degree in Mathematics?  A Masters in Arts degree or an education degree is not the same level of math mastery like a Masters in Science degree.

5. Does my tutor listen to my needs?
