What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I meet with the student and his/her family. I explain the tutoring process and have the student tell me his/her strengths. I may ask grade level questions or provide a formal pretest. I review the results with the parents and develop next steps.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
My degree is in Criminal Justice, but I've worked in child welfare, mental health and education for over 20 years.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $35 per hour and guarantee that your child will learn new skills. My fee may be higher for special situations and/or needs. I provide a discount for siblings or those who require 5 or more hours per week of services.
How did you get started teaching?
I have always worked with children and families in some capacity and education has always been a core goal.
What types of students have you worked with?
I've worked with students age 3-22. I have taught students with disabilities.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I am presently teaching a 2nd grader pre algebra.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Ask questions and try to find a tutor that will.be invested in you.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Ask questions that specifically pertain to you as well as general questions. Don't provide personal information unless it's specifically about your educational needs.
