Stellar Tutoring
About
I love helping learn and grow through tutoring. I have always had a passion for education, after graduating high school I was a substitute teacher for elementary and middle school for about 2-2.5 years. After that I went on to become an after school STEM teacher at the Orlando Science Center for a year and a half. In that program I taught elementary children through self guided STeM projects that allowed them to express their own creativity and thought processes. I am currently in school to become a lawyer but enjoy tutoring and potentially online teaching in the future. I do have a LinkedIn account under Destiny-Ann Duncan however I rarely go on as I believe knowledge is key to success and I believe the brain should be stimulated as often as possible away from technology

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to get a feel of what they already feel that they understand and what they would like to learn or any goals they have whether they be a time goal or concept goal. Then we make a plan to achieve the goal. I tend to push students farther that they believe they can because we all have a potential that we just need to step into that will surprise us greatly. It just take s a little courage to face what is uncomfortable or scary.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been a tutor of sorts to kids in a church program near me for over 7 years. In high school I took three years of early childhood to understand the development and learning of a child and work once a week in the pre k in the department. I completed the course with a DCF certificate to be qualified to teach in any childcare facility. I then decided to become a substitute teacher and worked in elementary and middle school for 2-2.5 years. After that I became a STEM teacher in an after school program run by the Orlando Science Center for elementary ages children. They learned abstract concepts in a way that allowed them to fully express their creativity and thought process farther than most school education allows. I intend to complete my bachelors with a major in political science and minor in psychology to teach virtual school while going to law school.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I generally charge about $15 dollars an hour
How did you get started teaching?
Ive always been fascinated with learning and reading. My mom began working in the school system when I was young and I’ve loved babysitting so it just seemed like it was a perfect fit for me to do after I graduated school.
What types of students have you worked with?
All kinds, I’ve worked with some of the most gifted and brilliant kids to kids that need a little extra attention. One child I taught needed me to sit beside him the whole class to feel confident in his work. So I taught my class from that seat and improvised to allow him the chance at success. My sister has an intellectual disability so I’ve never known anything but acceptance and understanding. I don’t get frustrated if you find a concept difficult. I just help you find the perfect way of looking at it together.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Well, I previously mentioned my younger sister and her set of challenges that I’ve been there as she overcame. Well about a month ago, she graduated high school on a regular class track with an A/B average. I won’t lie, it brought tears to my eyes.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure you find a teacher that believes in you. It’s that simple. If you feel safe and accepted, then you’ll feel more comfortable to take risks and really find out what you can do. Our minds are impressive things, they have so much potential as long as we believe in ourself.
