About

Hi! My name is Chelsea Knowles, the licensed and A.S.H.A. Certified Speech Language Pathologist behind Look Whoo’s Talking, LLC. I live in the St. Johns area near Jacksonville and Saint Augustine. I’m a mom of 3 elementary aged children including boy/girl twins. I have a pediatric private practice with 22 years of experience all in pediatrics including 10 years in elementary schools and 12 years in pediatric outpatient hospitals. I’m currently working in the schools so I can have the same hours as my own kids, but am available in the afternoons and evenings. I can provide services in your child’s daycare or at home. What stands out about my therapy is the science and the art of it. I have years of experience and training yet my approach is completely catered to you and your child’s individual and unique needs. I’d love to help your child! I do all types of speech, language, fluency, and even feeding therapy! Can’t wait to meet you and your child!

❤️

I love connecting with and working with elementary school aged children and ages one to five. My favorite things are remediating apraxia of speech and feeding disorders. I love to see children learn to express themselves freely and learn to love to eat a variety of foods!

My daughter received feeding therapy for 9 months, at age 7, and we stopped when Chelsea moved out of town. My daughter tried a few new foods during the time she was receiving therapy. Soon after the last therapy, she started trying even more foods, it felt as if in her mind she kept going to see Chelsea, and she felt confident and interested in new flavors and textures almost on a daily basis. At home, we tried a similar approach as done during therapy, and she slowly increased her regular food options. We also started letting her do stuff in the kitchen. Surprisingly, 4 months ago, she started baking breads and desserts, all on her own, witout recipes or measurements! She got inspired by watching Nailed It on Netflix, and she has made a variety (all edible and yummy!) of baked foods, all within our dietary restrictions. She did not try her own creations at first, but after seeing how her friends and family loved what she made, she started trying and eating her own baked goods. We owe Chelsea all of this, we will be forever grateful!

We have recently started working with Chelsea remotely with our second grader, Wyatt. The WebEx technology works flawlessly for speech therapy. She plays fun, engaging games and the time goes by very quickly. I would highly recommend Look Whoos Talking for telemedicine therapy for this spring and over the summer.

We use Chelsea on a self pay basis as she comes to our house or my daughters school twice per week for speech therapy. This would be the easiest way without having that feeling of having to see someone in their office which can be intimidating for a kid. Our daughter loves Chelsea and looks forward to each visit. The feedback continues at home and we see the improvement at home plus the feedback on improvement from her teacher as well. We are beyond thankful for coming across her.

I have to share about my son Carter -- enjoying ice cream and also eating an apple at his Preschool orientation this year. Hes now 3 years old. As I was looking back at these pictures, I see a boy doing something normal -- eating -- however, this wasnt always the case, it wasnt normal to him. Rewind to two years ago. Its a milestone you get excited about. Starting solids with your babies and exploring new foods. For us it was a living nightmare. To give a bit of background, Carter started out on solids just fine at 6 months old. He had a few instances where he threw up his food and with that was born a food aversion. He would not open his mouth for a spoon at all. He would cry and turn his face. We gave it time...
His first birthday rolled around. Still no food. We decided to start something we had never even heard about. Food therapy. We went to the first therapy session at a hospital. It was a mess. Carter would cry just sitting in the high chair. They tried to talk over him and say it was normal and continue with the lesson. Second appointment came. Same thing. It was 30 minutes and a lot of money to get nowhere. We decided to try another therapist at another doctor. Even worse. We paid her to try and entertain him in a closet size room while he was crying. No progress with food. Again, we didnt even know this kind of therapy existed, but we knew this didnt feel right.
Finally we found Chelsea!!! She came to our home for the therapy sessions and from the start I had faith in her just by the way she spoke to him, how she followed his lead during the sessions, her patience and her knowledge on the topic. As she worked with him she would explain why she was doing what she was doing and how to do it ourselves to practice on days we didnt have her sessions. She was a true professional and so great with not pushing him to a limit where he wasnt willing to try anymore.
To this day, two years later, I still think about Chelsea and I message her pictures of him eating because I am forever grateful to the person who cured him of his food aversion. She is the reason he started eating and I learned so much from just watching her. This is probably the hardest thing Ive ever dealt with in my life. The stress it caused on us as a family is unforgettable and I cant thank her enough for changing our lives.

    Frequently asked questions

Before working with a new student I do a quick intake with the parent over the phone. We determine if an evaluation is needed or I review the current evaluation. At the start of the initial visit, there is some paperwork to fill out. Then I engage with and establish rapport with the student and we begin therapy.

I am a Florida licensed and A.S.H.A. certified Speech Language Pathologist. I take at least 30 hours of relevant continuing education every two years and I love to learn more in my areas of interest.  I am a life long learner!

I am running a FALL Special where initial evaluations are only $200.00 and therapy if needed twice weekly for 30 minutes is only $50.00 per session within a 20 minute radius.

Regular Rates are posted on my Facebook Page.

I have always loved and worked with children.  I became a Red Cross Certified Babysitter at the age of 12.  I tutored two boys with A.D.H.D. In organizational skills and homework in Highschool.  I was a nanny during college When I was in undergraduate school at the University of Florida, I met several people who told me about the field of Speech Language Pathology and I felt that it would be flexible in terms of age of patients and types of therapies you could provide. I would never be bored and be able to help children find their voice!

I have worked with people of all ages, from 6 months of age and into their late 80’s. I have focused primarily on ages 6 months to 18 years.

Recently, I got two texts from previous feeding patients of mine. One was from the Mother of a little boy who would not eat at all. During therapy he began to eat and try a variety of foods. His Mother thanked me for all I did back then because now he is thriving in Pre-K and eating everything - she said thanks to me! The other, was from the Mom of a seven year old girl who had food allergies and a very restrictive diet. Not only if she eating new foods daily but she started watching Nailed It, and is baking her own allergy-free food and wants to become a pastry chef!

Find an A.S.H.A. Certified and State Licensed S.L.P. In your area who connects well with your child.  If the rapport is there, progress will flourish. Make sure the S.L.P. emphasizes the importance of parent training so that you can continue the progress at home to facilitate carryover into all areas of your child’s life.

Think through what your specific goals are before talking to therapists so that you can both be on the same page :)
