About
I have taught Conversational English in Bangkok, Thailand and Senegal, Africa to college students and young adults. I loved living in and learning about those different cultures, and the people were the best! For a few years we also hosted Japanese college students in our home in conjunction with Ashland University. They would spend weekends with us to learn and practice conversational English. I now have an ESL Basic Certificate and ESL Educators Certificate through Bridge Education Group. I am also in the process of completing the Bridge Grammar Advisor course and Intro. to Teaching Business English Course.
My experience in teaching ESL has been with young adults in college or out in the work force. I have enjoyed getting to know them, learn about their culture, and especially help them better their English skills!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I am just beginning to look for new students. Ideally, I would like to tutor/teach in a small group of 2-6 students. I'm also willing to teach 1 on 1.
I am also very interested in tutoring ESL to adults working here in various businesses.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
ESL Basic Certificate
ESL Educators Certificate
These two were completed after a 60 hour course with Bridge Education Group out of Denver, CO.
I am finishing up another 20 hours of studies in a Grammar Advisor course and an Intro. to teaching Business English course.

How did you get started teaching?
I had wonderful experiences teaching ESL in Thailand and Africa back in 2008-2010. For the last 9 years I have been the Director of Berry Good Farms and Culinary Services at North FLorida School of Special Education (NFSSE) in Jacksonville, FL. I am now retired from teaching young adults with intellectual differences organic farming practices and culinary skills. It was a fantastic job!
What types of students have you worked with?
In teaching ESL I have worked with college age students and young adults in the work force.
My tenure at NFSSE I worked with young adults with intellectual differences ages 18 years and up.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I recently ran the Twin Cities Marathon, in Minneapolis, MN and qualified for the Boston Marathon. I am entered to run in Boston on October 11th this year!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would look for a teacher/tutor who can help the student reach their goals. Is the student looking to get in to an American University? They would need a teacher who knows the standard the student needs to reach to pass an English entrance exam. Is the student working in an American business? They would need a teacher who is able to teach business English.
