Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First, I get to know them and how they approach school. Next, I help out with homework mostly, this way, I familiarize myself with the coursework and what they are learning at school in this time. Once I have been tutoring the student for about a week or two, (depending on how many times I see them per week), I begin to make my own coursework, such as practice worksheets, mini tests, and different learning approaches to get the student intrigued and from there continue to improve their grades as time goes by.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have always tutored kids in my school, family, etc. I also worked at a tutoring center for a the school year my senior year in high school. Since then, I have worked as a tutor for various companies and myself.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Depends the grade they are in + how much time I see them in one day.
How did you get started teaching?
I've alwasy loved helping others, therefore, since middle school, I have gone out of my way to help others in school.
What types of students have you worked with?
All types of students. From little kids to high schoolers to kids with learning disabilities.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
A recent event I am fond of is something I do anually. Every year I collect donations during thanksgiving and Christmas then take them over to hospitals. I do this to spread cheer on the holidays to kids that may notbe having the best holidays. I do this because I believe that not everyone is as fortunate as I am or as others I know and I like to give back. I'm thankful for my life and what I have so I love having this opportunity to give back even if it is only once a year. I plan on expanding this once I have the resources to spread more awareness.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure the tutor/teacher you choose knows what he/she is doing, make sure they have experience, and make sure they have a plan in accordance to your coursework.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What their greatest concerns are, weakenesses and strengths, and what is their preffered way to learn.
