Dan's Science Tutoring

I am a classroom teacher with over 15 years experience teaching and mentoring middle and high school students in the sciences. I have had great success with my students, and my students consistently out-perform my school, district, and the state on end of course exams. More importantly, they consistently come back to tell me how well prepared they are for the future and for the classes they take after mine. I often end up tutoring former students as they move on to more advanced courses.

In 2020, I am working exclusively online due to several members of my family being at high risk from COVID-19, so all tutoring sessions are online only. I am offering sessions for a reduced rate compared to what I normally charge for in-person tutoring. However, the service is just as personalized as ever, and in some ways I find tutoring over Zoom superior to tutoring in person, since both the student and myself can be working on our own computers and collaborate.

I have a BS from Humboldt State Univeristy in California and an MS in Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences from the Univeristy of Florida, so my background is in science, not education, whcih gives me a depth of contnet knowledge that is greatly superior to most teachers who trained exclusively as educators.

I have taughts, an tutored every grade level from 6-10 and have a wealth of experience with the curricula, teaching styles, and content in Biology, Chemistry, General Science, Earth adn Pace Science, and the Physical Sciences.

I also have a great deal fo experience mentoring students who conduct independent research and working with students to succeed in science fairs.

I love seeing my students succeed!

When students tell me, and I see in their eyes, that they finally understand some topic which was previously confusing them, or their grade improves and they develop confidence in theri ability as young scientists, or they succeed beyond their expectations to win top awards at a science fair, that is when I know I have done my job.

I enjoy working with struggling students who need help to understand basic concepts and gifted students working in advanced, rigourous programs or on independent research.
