About
Are you interested in some assistance with social studies, history, or any other social science subject? My name is Katie Thompson, and I am a current Ph.D. candidate in the UF Department of Sociology, Criminology, and Law. I have a bachelor's degree in Sociology and Political Science from Iowa State University, as well as training in statistics, economics, and history. I am a laid-back and easy-going person, and I believe that students should be encouraged to ask questions and have discussions about the topics that they study. In my free time, I enjoy painting, playing piano, and traveling!
I am pursuing my doctorate because I am passionate about teaching, and I want to be a professor so that I can guide students as they learn about the world of social sciences. My passion for the subject began in middle school when I fell in love with American History, which led me to several different academic disciplines. This has left me with an approach to learning that focuses on making connections between new material and material that we already know. Understanding what caused an event, and what effect it has on the modern-day, helps students contextualize the theories and stories that they are taught.
