Kristen's STEM Tutoring
About
I have been informally and formally tutoring other students in STEM courses since I was in middle school, and I would love to help you or your child! I recently graduated from the University of Florida with a 4.0 GPA, and I graduated high school with a 4.0 GPA as well. I am pre-med and have a B.S. in Microbiology and Cell Science, so I have excelled in many difficult science and math classes. Additionally, I received a score of 521 (98th percentile) on the MCAT, and would love to help others achieve similarly high scores.
I love seeing students grasp a concept that they couldn't previously grasp. I know how it feels to start understanding something that I had struggled with, and I would love to help other students achieve that.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to first assess what they are struggling with from their point of view. If it's a concept, I will walk through the concept slowly and work with them on it. If it's a way that they work or study, that turns into a longer conversation about how their brains work and how they like to study. I offer tips that have helped me and see if that helps. It is sometimes a long process to figure out exactly what a student needs, but I try my best to put in that work.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I don't have formal education or training, but I have been tutoring for years and I also TA in college. All of this has helped me learn how to help other students. I have been in school for a long time, and all of that experience has made me a much better teacher.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I generally charge $20-30 per hour depending on the needs of the student.
How did you get started teaching?
I have been helping other classmates throughout middle school, high school, and college. I also tutored middle schoolers when I was in high school. In college I then transitioned into being a TA for biochemistry.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students that didn't know how to effectively learn as well as students that are struggling with particular concepts. Some of them only got tutoring because their parents made them, so I had to work a little harder to get them engaged in the tutoring.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I recently went to the Bahamas to kayak and do community service, which was a super rewarding experience.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would advise them to just try to commit to the process as much as they can. It's scary to ask for help, but everyone needs help at times in their lives and you only have something to gain from getting tutoring.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
I think they should consider exactly what they are struggling with, whether that is a topic in a class or general learning issues. They know themself better than anyone else does, so they have the greatest ability to tell teachers what they need.
