English/General Humanities Tutoring
About
The English language has always been my favorite subject matter... I began reading when I was 4 years old, and that's really how I started teaching myself before even beginning school! In high school, I participated in an international debate competition and won several awards for my writing, public speaking, and scholarly knowledge of assigned subjects such as Art, History, Literature, and Music. Moreover, I have consistently received top scores in any English-affiliated coursework, and I also acquired my Bachelor's in Art History with high honors, which I earned after maintaining a high GPA and writing an extensive senior thesis. In other words, I have excellent speaking, reading, and writing skills, and I would love to help others enhance those skills as well! In addition, I am well-versed in various subject matters within the Humanities, particularly Women and Gender Studies, which I earned my minor in. I'm happy to be of service in any of the above topics, so do not hesitate to reach out! Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I would first start by getting to know the student, asking them questions about what they think their strengths and weaknesses may be in the subject matter of interest. Of course, my goal is to ensure that the student is comfortable, so I'd first want to know about what it is they'd need help with, as well what they wish to gain from our sessions, before setting up a schedule of my own! One method I find helpeful is going over any past assignments or examinations in which the student struggled with, analyzing them together to make sure the student is up to speed, before moving onto any future lessons, assignments, or essays.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I earned my Bachelor's degree in Art History as magna cum laude (high honors), with a minor in Women and Gender Studies, from the University of Florida. The major is very heavy on reading complex academic writing, as well as working on several essays of my own simultaneously. I was also senior editor of my student organization's publication, which required me to go over and edit all of our submissions (you can access the publication here: issuu.com/dinner.noshow)
