A's For Days Biology Tutoring
About
I recently graduated with honors in a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in Animal Studies, aspiring to be a wildlife biologist. In the past few years, I’ve had multiple experiences working in the biology field ranging from laboratory work to outdoor field work researching endangered animals. Through these experiences, I enjoyed teaching others about the work that I do, what it does for the environment, ourselves, and the animal, and explaining the in-depth details of biology in animals, plants, and ecosystems as a whole. I have experience tutoring classmates and friends in college on subjects such as genetics, physics, ecology, animal behavior, comparative physiology, and many more, therefore I can assist you in multiple disciplinaries. Additionally, I have experience as an environmental educationalist at wolf research center and sanctuary and at a sea turtle rescue-rehab-release center.
I enjoy teaching others how living beings affect us, how we affect them, and seeing how we are connected through the basics of biology. I want to help you do your best and hopefully show the side of biology that has made me so passionate and curious. There are many subjects within biology, but I am prepared to help you with whichever topic you need tutoring in. Also, I can assist with techniques to help write and outline a scientific or review paper. I wish to make this a fun and enjoyable experience for you. Plus, it is always entertaining to have a few fun facts to share with others.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Usually, I start by asking what subject matter of biology the student needs help with or is interested in learning. I figure out if they need help with studying for a test, writing a paper, answering problems for a homework assignment, or simply needing to understand a topic better. Also, I will ask the students what their goals are for this session and for long term tutoring. Additionally, we will discern how long of a timeframe the student must learn the material and I will make a plan to accommodate it. Furthermore, I will ask or find out what type of a learner the student is, whether it’s visual, audio, kinesthetic, etc. Understanding this will help me better understand the student and to come up with a teaching plan that best suits the student and optimizes their success in the subject. I personally am a visual and hands on learner, therefore I visualize and draw/write down concepts to understand and memorize them better. But I understand many learning types and can cater to the students’ needs. Understanding what helps and hinders the students’ learning abilities is also important to me. Then together, the student and I can better understand the topic and work towards achieving the student’s goal.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and have taken many college level biology courses. I try to keep myself up to date on the latest scientific articles and papers, so that I am prepared for new material that students might be taught in school, whereas I was not. Also, I have applied concepts learned in school to real life scenarios in the science field, thus providing interesting examples for certain subjects leaving them to be remembered easily.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Usually $45-60 per hour or session.
How did you get started teaching?
I got started in teaching by tutoring fellow classmates and friends struggling in current and past classes I’ve taken and have always enjoyed it. Plus, teaching others about the subject always helps you remember it better.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have mostly worked with high school and college level students but have interacted and educated middle school and elementary age students a fair bit in daily life and in past jobs.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find a tutor that you think has real-life experience in the subject matter you are interested in being tutored in, as well as one that will accommodate your needs and you’ll get along with well.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Ask:
- What is the goal of this tutoring/what do I want to accomplish?
- How long am I willing to learn the material I will be taught on? Short or long?
- What is my timeframe to learn this material?
- What teaching techniques help my learning process and what hinders it?
- What do I want in a tutor?
