Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Assess and evaluate what level the student is on, to confirm that the student is on the correct level, begin tutoring there. Unless there is a specific test or assignment that the student needs assistance with first.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BS in early childhood education as well as a MS in Elementary Education. I have taught in the classroom for the past 7 years. The majority of the time on the Elementary level.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
The price is $30.00 to $40.00 per hour. Depending on the amount of time needed.
How did you get started teaching?
I first began teaching in the early 1990's as a Sunday School teacher, then adopted two children. Then after 26 years of medical billing and collection, I decided I had the passion to teach all types of children. Including ESE post high school. I came up with a goal and went for it, I now know that this was the right choice for me. I love teaching and love to see children gain the confidence needed to go out into the world and achieve thier goals.
What types of students have you worked with?
ESE, ESOL, ADHD, Emotional and behavior. In the near future I plan to become a Board Certified Behavior Analyst.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
My son just got married last year and they are expecting my 1st biological grandchild. She is having a girl, and I am extremely excited.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would say that be ready to focus and work hard, in doing so you will be on task and on level. We will work together so that you can gain confidence, and working on your own in no time!
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Think about your teacher as a friend who is there to help, think about the short amount of time you have so focusing is important. Not to be shy or ashamed that you need an extra teacher.
