About
Hi my name is Wilbur Brown - My students call me Mr. Brown. I have been in the field of education for 15+ yrs. in Baltimore, Maryland and now in Coral Springs, Florida. I live by this statement "If they didn't learn, then I didn't teach." My goal is for students to learn no matter what it takes. 99.9% I make sure that happens. The reasons is because I make learning real. When it comes to math I help students see and apply concepts with real life application things that are relative to them and the world they live in. I have seen major results of students motivation, understanding, academic achivement as a result.

Seeing students enjoy learning or subject like math for the first time. Motivating, inspiring, empowering students . I'm passionate about seeing students realize understand the concepts he/she is being taught. Everytime I hear students say I use to not like math but now I do or parent says he/she talks about you all the time and how you teach and now they like the subject. There's no greater feeling. I hope to inspire the same in all students.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First I get to know a little bit about the new student. Things he/she is intersted in, likes and dislikes. I also do a learning stlye initial assessment to see what his/her strongest preferable style of learning is. Both the students personal interest-likes and dislikes as well as the learnig tool are both beneficial to my knowing how to teach affectively the student. Building good repore comes first then learning.

In 19993 I volunteered at a school my mother worked at. Each day I would assist the teach in helping the students with their learning. From there I started to take interest in the development of young minds.
What types of students have you worked with?

Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I was ask to speak to the graduating seniors at the school I teach at. It my first year teaching in Florida coming from Baltimore, Maryland. To be given the opportunity to speak before the graduation class during my first year was an honor.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would advise the student to not just accept them based only on their credentials but find out why they do what they do? Expertise is very important but valuing and having love for the students and their overall success inside as well outside of the clasroom should always be the teachers objective. Like the saying "people don't care about what you know, until they know how much you care." Genuine care should always come first
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Am I willing to ask about any skills that I can learn that will help me beyond your teaching me?
Am I open to being challenge to think differently about what I am learning accepting I might not see it all or the right way just yet?
Can I trust and accept that my teacher wants me to succeed just as much if not more than I do?
Will I be open and honest when I struggle and ask for the help I need?
Can I accept that how I feel about myself can be a major obstacle to my learning no matter the subject.
Am I willing to cooperate and participate in the learning process?
