About

Hi, I'm Ramya! I've been tutoring for several years now specializing in Math and Science. I'm majoring in Neuroscience at Johns Hopkins University (JHU) with a 3.93 GPA and plan to pursue medical school in the near future. At JHU, I have been a teaching assistant for Probability & Statistics and Physics II. One of my proudest moments as a tutor was when I had the opportunity to run a section, where I taught students alongside the professor. I've learned to tailor teaching techniques to each student's learning styles. Having been a student myself recently, I understand what it's like to be in your shoes. And I'm here to make those "ah-ha" moments happen, when everything suddenly clicks. I love nothing more than to pass on the favor of peers and tutors who helped me as a student. Schedule a tutoring session to start bringing those grades up!

I have completed math courses up to Multivariable Calculus, earning an A or above in all classes. Being a teaching assistant and student math teacher for all subjects ranging from Algebra 1 to Statistics, I've learnt how to teach math in various ways that make sense to students with various backgrounds (STEM and non-STEM). I have also earned national awards in AIME, Math Olympiad, and other competitions.

As a Neuroscience major and a pre-med student, I have taken numerous biology courses ranging from general biology to biochemistry. Having experience in real research labs as well, I like to teach textbook concepts by relating them to real-world examples. I have found that this really helps me excel in those classes and have seen this technique work with students as well.

I am really excited to help you achieve your goals and get the grades you want! Please feel free to reach out and we can set up a schedule that works best for you! Thank you!

Having been a high school student and graduating with my Bachelor's degree very recently, I can empathize with the struggles a student can face. Moreover, the current situation around the world can make it much more difficult. I hope to not only help as a tutor but be someone the student can relate to as well. In this way, I'd like to make the learning process successful, but also an easy, fun process, not stressful. When a student achieves these two things, that is what I enjoy the most. Knowing that I could pass on the favor that some of peers gave to me when I was going through the same thing.

Frequently asked questions

Whenever I start working with a new student, I like to first understand two things: 1) what you're looking for in terms of the subject material and 2) your learning style. Some students may need conceptual help whereas others want to focus more on the actual questions or methodology. Depending on the area of help, I can tailor how I guide students to reach the final answer themselves. This depends heavily on the learning style as well (visual, auditory, tactile, etc).
