Ismarys Tutoring
About
My name is Ismarys Martinez and I am a recent FGCU graduate. I have obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biology along with a minor in Chemistry.
I am currently in the process of enrolling in a post-baccalaureate program at FGCU in order to receive my ASCP certification in clinical laboratory science.
I was a tutor at FGCU for a semester, and I have decided to go into tutoring once again for the time being because I have always enjoyed helping my peers whenever they did not understand a certain topic in the class. That being said, I have always learned from them as well.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Whenever my students and I meet up, I expect my students to come to me with questions and certain problems that they are having trouble with.
Some may say this is lazy teaching without planning any lessons. I say it is quite the opposite. This way of teaching helps my student to constantly be on edge on what they need to learn next. This gets them to actively be listening to what they are taught in school and once they come across a topic that they do not understand, they will mark it and bring it to me so we can work on it in depth the next time we meet.
If the tutor plans every moment of every lesson with his/her student, how is it any different from going to school?
Private, or public, tutoring should be about strenghtening the student's weakness in the class, not just another lesson.
That being said, if the student and I do not finish our current topic or if the student is still not grasping the topic, I will, to the best of ability, plan ways in how I can get my student to learn it with ease.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
BS in Biology
Minor in Chemistry
How did you get started teaching?
I began teaching/tutoring my sophomore year of college officially. I would continuously tutor my sibilings and friends prior to that.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I went to Thailand in 2017 in order to help the underpriviledged children to learn English and construct agricultural + learning centers in the remote villages of the country.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Absolutely know his/her teaching style and see if it is compatible with the type of learning you prefer.
