About

It has been said that success breeds success. When children are successful in school, they feel good about themselves. I love seeing children learn and achieve. And it is especially fulfilling to think that we have provided a chance for a child to be successful in school. This can very well be a major turning point in a child's life - for the rest of his or her life! Some children need a bridge to help them over a rough patch in school. It is exciting and rewarding to provide that bridge.

It has also been said that every child can learn. I would go a step further and say that every child can also love to learn, and it is the responsibility of the teacher/tutor to do more than fill a child's head with facts. A teacher/tutor must instill a love of learning. The first step is to establish a rapport with the child and make the tutoring time a pleasant one.

I help students achieve their goals by knowing what is expected at grade level. I enlist the help and the input of teachers or parents, I target specific and realistic goals, and set up adequate sessions and hands-on materials.

Setting specific, incremental goals and specific dates for meeting the goals is part of the strategy for success.

My original start in tutoring was the year 2000, with children in Fort Myers. These sessions took place in my home. I was taking classes at the local university, and part of my training was to record the child's reading comprehension and development in language arts. After that I tutored young people who were studying to take their GED test. I have tutored in the learning lab at Florida Southwestern College for language arts. (At the time it was Edison Community College, Fort Myers, Florida)

Some accomplishments and awards include a writing competition for which I received one thousand dollars. This award came from the National Academy of Opticianry. I am a published novelist.

I enjoy being with people and helping them succeed.
