When a student sings "I got the victory". Yes, I had a 3rd grader that was on a kindergarten level and would always sing sad songs to her family. Well, five weeks into tutoring 3 to 4 days a week for 1 and 1 and 1/2 hours she had made tremendous progress. As she was completing a reading passage on a more difficult level, she begin to sing those words. I began to cry tears of joy.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The child will test to see their reading level. This will give me a great indication of where to start and what gaps the child may have in the context of reading. I like to include the parents in the process because I believe it takes more than just the tutor to teach the child. I am willing to teach the parent/caregiver what I am doing. This will enable you to help your child when I am not there. I leave you with all the tools necessary.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
My education career started in 1990 in Louisiana, where I later opened a preschool. The opportunity of owning and directing the preschool gave me the creative ability to design and implement an innovative curriculum that my staff and I could teach reading to little people. Life happened and I landed in sunny Florida in 2017. Fortunately, I worked for a tutoring company and was fully trained in the Orton-Gillingham methodology. Currently, my role is tutoring children with dyslexia, autism, and struggles in reading. Once again I am creating in innovative ways to read in the way of an app. Coming Soon.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My price is $40 an hour and I provide everything for the child. I provide a binder for the child that includes everything that they need to become a strong reader. I don't really like to quote by the hour because one hour is not enough time for one session. It should be at least 1hr and 1/2 or 2 hours depending on the age.
How did you get started teaching?
I wanted to open a preschool so that I could be with my children when they were young.
What types of students have you worked with?
My career has lead me to work with students from first grade to high school with special needs. The needs were students that were struggling readers, autistic, and dyslexic.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Ask enough questions and know exactly what kind of tutor you are getting.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Students shouldn't be afraid to ask for help. If they have a need, then they should feel safe and ask for help.
