About
Please see the info I sent in my quote about my experience as an SLD teacher for reading and writing.
The reason I went back to college to earn a degree in SLD and Reading was because I wanted to reach students in my high school English classes who could not read.
I find joy in each success (large and small) that my student experiences, and I find ways to measure progress so that the student can notice real progress, which is sometimes difficult for a student to recognize. The student is encouraged when I notice (and celebrate) progress, no matter how small it may seem, because once progress happens, however slow, it soon accelerates and surprises the student.
From 9 to 5, the work I do is Technical Writing for corporations, but the work I enjoy the most is teaching reading, writing, and handwriting to students of all ages.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I teach the student how to learn; in other words, I equip the student with learning strategies that fit the student, and continually measure every increment of progress so that the student can see that the progress is real, because often the student has so much experience with failure that that he/she does not expect—or even recognize—small successes that lead to significant progress.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Degree in SLD (Specific Learning Disabilities), which focused on Reading and Writing, and 5 years of teaching SLD students.
Degree in English Education, and years of teaching high school English, which opened my eyes to the fact that several students have both intelligence and yet a reading disability.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$75.00 per session. I do not bill for travel time or the time (often over an hour) to prepare the lesson or the time (often over an hour) to record each pass/fail item during the lesson. This record is essential to building the next lesson.
