Excel Mathematics Tutoring
About
In my more than two years’ professional tutoring experience, I have come to understand and embrace the challenges of teaching students of all learning types. My students range from K-12 and are at all different levels of mathematical competence. I have learned to utilize creative and alternative teaching methods to help students understand abstract concepts, while reinforcing the importance of applications and continuous practice. Simply put, I teach for the student to understand the mathematics, not just to memorize.
I genuinely love watching my students progress in their understanding of math and their confidence in the subject rise with their grades. One of the greatest joys I have as a tutor is to see students have their "a-ha!" moments after struggling with a concept.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When working with a new student, I will always begin with an ice breaker to try to get to know the student better. I've found that opening up to the student and showing genuine interest in the student's life has only strengthened the impact of the tutoring sessions. I'll then have an honest conversation with the student and/or parents on their goals and which areas need improvement. If there isn't current material to work with, I will usually bring appropriate materials to evaluate the students' current understandings and practices.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have two years of professional tutoring experience, with a year as a group tutor and a year as a private tutor. I also have a year of experience as a teaching assistant for college-level statistics courses.
What types of students have you worked with?
K-12, college, adult, and students with learning difficulties.
