About

I have the expertise to tutor advanced topics, but I can help students of all levels. As a community college instructor, I helped many students discover that they were much better at math than they thought!

It's really a wonderful thing to see a student suddenly understand a new concept (the Aha! moment). To see an arithemetic or algebra student who's afraid of mathematics suddenly realize that math isn't just a jumble of confusing symbols but common sense. To share the beauty of calculus and physics. And of course to watch a student gain confidence and come back to me with good test scores!

Ms. Beverly Suarez-Beard has been a true Godsend for my son. The pandemic lockdown caused my son to backslide in critical subject areas in sophomore year of high school. I felt that his GPA and overall preparedness for the SAT/ACT, together with his last remaining semester grades of high school wouldn’t be up to par for the college of his choice. I hired other tutoring services prior to finding & enlisting Ms. Suarez-Beard on this tutoring site. I wish I would have found her sooner as I would have saved so much time and money! The results of her tutoring methods were instant! What a difference she made! It was like a light switch had gone off in my son’s head! He not only acquired a thorough grasp in the concepts he had struggled with; but easily attained a final GPA of 4.0 post being tutored by Ms. Suarez-Beard. My son stated that she teaches with precise clarity and patiently takes her time, which made a huge difference to him. He attributes his final grades to her help. Also, my son has since taken the SAT/ACT for college, and felt totally prepared & confident. I’ve never seen him more excited about his future academic endeavors! Ms. Suarez-Beard is, hands-down, beyond effective! Thank you, Ms. Suarez-Beard! You’ve been invaluable to us!

Frequently asked questions

I generally spend the first meeting evaluating the student's strengths and weaknesses in the subject matter, what they feel they need help with, and getting to work right away on homework and problem solving. If a test is looming, we'll work on that, of course!

A full year of graduate mathematics at the University of Pennsylvania, a Master's Degree in Physics from the University of Pennsylvania. National Science Foundation Fellowship finalist as an undergraduate. Good teaching awards each semester I taught as a teaching assistant at U of P. I taught at Business Calculus at Villanova before moving to California, where I acquired teaching certificates in both Math and Physics and taught the freshman and sophomore Cal State/UC math and physics curriculum for eight years.

I charge a flat rate of $50 per hour.

I started tutoring for the National Honor Society in high school--and later tutored to support myself in college. I've tutored everything from basic arithmetic to Physical Chemistry.

I've worked with middle school students who needed to improve their grades in arithmetic and algebra, adult students trying to learn enough math (arithmetic and algebra) to get a GED, college undergraduates (primarily calculus) and a graduate student in Fine Art Restoration who needed to pass Physical Chemistry for her degree. As a community college teacher in California, I helped one talented student pass the challenging Cal Tech Transfer test--but I also helped students with what we termed "Math Anxiety."  Many students who had test anxiety and low math grades went on to earn "A's."
