About

Hi! I am an actuary & math tutor with 5+ years of direct experience. I am new to tutors.com, but I have been taking on students in my community through school postings & word-of-mouth since 2017. I am most experienced working with middle/high schoolers & college students in the 100-300 level courses. I tailor my teaching style to each student's needs, and I have materials & worksheets prepared for a variety of topics, as well as SAT/ACT topics.

I graduated from Loyola University MD in 2019 with degrees in economics & statistics. For my 9-5, I am a member of the actuarial team at a large healthcare firm, so I am doing applied calculus and statistics in the real world every single day.

I have office capacity in my home in Washington, DC to work privately with individual students or groups of up to 4. I can travel to clients nearby or meet remotely if preferred.

Frequently asked questions

I like to start with an initial consultation up to a week prior to our first session, which can be done remotely or over the phone. I ask that you send me an email containing a copy of the syllabus for the course & examples of typical coursework (worksheets, homework assignments, projects, exams) if you have them. We'll talk about short term & long term goals, as well as scheduling.

There is no standard timeframe I set aside for the initial consult; it can be as long or as short as needed for us to work out all the details.

I am a Loyola University MD graduate with degrees in economics & statistics, so I have taken just about every undergraduate math course there is. Currently, I work as an actuarial analyst, so I am doing applied calculus and statistics in the real world every single day. As a condition of my employment I am required to continue my education through a rigorous set of mathematics/finance-heavy exams, and sharp precision in calculations is required in all that I do. I have 12+ years of experience volunteering, teaching & coaching those with special needs as well. Teaching is something I am passionate about, especially in individual and small group settings. I hope to help as many students as I can find a love (or at least strong proficiency) for mathematics as I have!

I accept cash in-person. Checks, Venmo, Zelle & Apple Pay for virtual tutoring only.

Consultation - free

Standard lessons are 1 hour, but can be prorated on an ad-hoc basis if there are scheduling conflicts.

Late cancellation (<24h notice) - $25 paid at next lesson

My parents always said I would be a great tutor after working 1/1 with children & adults as a Special Olympics swim coach, but I never formally made the effort because I didn't want to give up my summers lifeguarding. But during college, I would see one of my friend's younger siblings in the library always struggling with statistics, so I started helping her for free once or twice a week. And from there, I decided to put myself out there in 2017 & formally take on clients as a second job because it was something I truly enjoyed.

I have mostly worked with middle/high schoolers & college students at the 100-300 course level.
