About
Hi! I am an experienced Teacher-Leader with over 9 years of experience in DC Public schools. I possess in-depth content knowledge and have a proven success record of student growth and instructional ingenuity. I am currently taking a leave of absence from teaching to pursue a Masters degree in Education Entrepreneurship at UPenn and am interested in tutoring as I pursue my degree. I believe in the power of elevating young people through high quality instruction, empowerment, and fostering a growth mindset! I know that given the proper tools, everyone can succeed!
I love empowering young people to see their strengths and changing their outlook on their academics and their potential. I see I have see academic spaces as opportunities to think creatively and apply real-world problem solving strategies.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The first session will purely be relationship building. I believe any sort of academic progress or transfer of knowledge needs to occur with trust between both teacher and student.
Following that, I will give a small pre-test for me to be able to diagnose the academic gaps of the student.
I will then plan lessons based on gaps I see in order to give the student what he/she/they specifically needs.
I will monitor for progress each week as time passes, with celebrations at every acknowledgement of growth!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Over the past nine years I have been an elementary teacher in DC public schools, rated Highly Effective by my school district standards. I have also privately tutored students, although this is the first time I am using tutors.com.
I also run a Design Thinking Fellowship for 5th - 12th Grade students called The Bridge, funded through The Creative School.
I am a City Year and TFA alum as well as currently pursuing my Masters at University of Pennsylvania for Education Entrepreneurship.
