Smart Start Tutors specializes in working with students in grades K-6 in reading, writing, and math. I also work with middle school students, in reading and writing, if requested. I am a former elementary school teacher with over seven years experience. I am also a certified Reading Specialist with a Masters degree from Loyola University Maryland. I am trained in how to assess your child's academic strengths and gaps as well as what intervention strategies to implement to help your child close the gaps quickly. The key to student academic success is through individualized lessons that target your child's specific academic needs and goals. I provide progress notes after each session that help to ensure continuous communication and progress. My services are offered in my Silver Spring office or online using the Zoom platform.
I have a sincere passion for working with elementary and middle school students. I always have. I love helping them to grasp the material that was once difficult for them and has since become something that they no longer struggle with. This happens by teaching my students the right strategies that align with their unique learning style and interests. When I see my students have those "light bulb" moments where everything clicks, it is extremely rewarding and it reminds me of why I love working with my students.
Step 1: Our process begins with a 20-minute complimentary consultation with the parent(s)/ caregivers. We will discuss tutoring options and your specific child's needs and goals. Step 2: A complimentary assessment session is conducted to pinpoint your child's specific strengths and academic gaps. A full report with the assessment results and a customized action plan is provided. Step 3: The decision is made to continue on with tutoring or not. The parent(s)/caregivers choose the payment option that is right for their child's needs and schedule a series of lessons. Step 4: Individualized, customized lessons are designed based on the assessment results and other observations. Lessons are taught using a multi-sensory approach either in our Silver Spring office or via Zoom. Ongoing: Progress notes are shared with parent(s)/caregivers to ensure continuous communication and progress.
