Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I always offer a free first lesson to give everyone a chance to see if we are a good fit. I come up with a detailed plan for working on weaknesses and boosting the strengths of each of my students, and stay in close contact with families to monitor how my current approach is working, and continually adjust as needed.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am currently a doctoral student at the Wright Institute in Berkeley, California, in training to become a clinical psychologist. My research and clinical interests are in child and adolescent psychology, and all of my tutoring is informed by my education in this field.
I have been tutoring for over 4 years, and have taught students as young as 4, as well students in their teens. I have my BA for Wesleyan University where I made the dean's list for academic excellence all four years. I was also personally asked by the chair of the philosophy department to assist in editing student essays in the context of analytic writing. I recently completed a 2 year premedical Post Bacc program at American university where I earned a 4.0 GPA.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My prices vary depending on a number of factors: 1) how many sessions are required per week 2) commuting times (not taken into account if tutoring is virtual or at my home address) 3) the needs of the student as it relates to necessary lesson preparations 4) your unique financial situation -- I work with all my families to make tutoring affordable.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked students of all ages from 4 through 18. I have worked extensively with children with autism and ADHD, as well as neurotypical students. I have taught both in both a group and private setting, and have provided classes for two different Montessori schools in the DC area.
