Jessica Mandarin Totoring
About
I am a native speaker of Mandarin Chinese. I've been teaching Mandarin at a few public elementary school after-school programs in D. C. with Capitol Language Services since November 2018, tutoring Mandarin at the International Language Institute and on my own to kids and adults since last summer. I design classes based on students' needs and goals. And I'm a patient and fun person!
I feel very satisfied and happy when students really learn something from me. I enjoy it when there's laughter in class. I try to make class more fun, no matter in class or online, for kids or adults. I'm proud of my students when they use words or sentences or anything else that they learned from me. I also enjoy working with different people, because I always learn something new from them as well.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First, I like to talk to the student and figure out the student's level, what he/she wants to work on, and what their goal is.
Second, I will design the class and find the best materials that suit their levels and goals.
Last, I will let my students try the class I designed and see what they think. And based on how they feel, we'll decide together to keep going with the currirucm I designed or make some adjustments.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a bachelor's degree, though it's not in education. My current company trained me before I became their Chinese teacher. I have been working with great and experienced teachers and learning from them.
